I am very honored to have received the R. W. Pohl medal for outstanding teaching in physics (herausragende Lehre in der Physik) from the Faculty of Physics in Göttingen, presented during the Dies Physicus on July 3.

I am particularly happy to receive this recognition for the lecture “Introduction to Physics of Complex Systems,” which is also part of the interdisciplinary Matter to Life degree program. Teaching to a mixed audience of mostly physicists, together with a good proportion of biologists and chemists — and sometimes mathematicians and computer scientists — certainly has its own challenges, but it is also especially rewarding: The discussions with students are genuinely interesting and produce a special perspective on the subject.

I am really glad the students found the course useful, and I thank the Faculty of Physics in Göttingen very much for this distinction.
